How to update your iPhone software

If you’re an iPhone user, you’ll know that Apple frequently add new features to iOS. Here, we will talk about how to update your iPhone to the newest iOS version so that you are keeping up-to-date with Apples new tools.

Although many of us have automatic updates turned on, you may still be curious to find out how to check for new updates and download them yourself.

How to update your iPhone manually

Here are the steps to manually initiate a software update on your Apple device;

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone
  2. Tap into the General section
  3. Tap on Software Update
  4. Wait for it to check if an update is available
  5. If there is an update available, tap Install or Download and Install.

Although it may take a little while to download and initiate the software update on your device, this will manually have kicked it off. Note that your device will reset during this process.

How to update your phone automatically

With the manual update method out of the way, you can now have your iPhone download these big software updates automatically. Apple makes this pretty simple – you can control how this works following the below steps:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap on General
  3. Hit Software Update
  4. Tap on Automatic Updates
  5. Turn on both Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates

This means that your phone will automatically identify and install updates without having to check it. It’s important to stay on top of this so that your phone has all of the latest security features that iOS has to offer.

And, don’t worry about the software updates taking place during work or daytime hours, as they will always happen overnight whilst your device is charging and connected to a Wi-Fi network.
