How to update your iPhone software

When you hear IOS this and IOS that, many people don’t understand the impact these small but powerful updates can have on a device. As well as introducing new features, fun changes and of course, emojis… these updates often provide bug fixes, security patches and other optimisations. Because of these behind the scene impacts, it is important to keep your iPhone up to date, making it faster and more secure.

Here is how to update your iPhone software manually and set up automatic updates to give you peace of mind!

Manually Updating your iPhone

  •  Plug your device into a power source and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  • Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  • If you see two software update options available, choose the one you want to install.
  • Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now.

 Setting Automatic Updates for your iPhone

 Your device can update automatically overnight while it’s charging.

  • Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  • Tap Automatic Updates, then turn on Download iOS Updates.
  • Turn on Install iOS Updates. Your device will automatically be updated to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. Some updates may need to be installed manually.
