How to Prepare Your Console For Trade-In

Ready to upgrade your console and make some cash in the process? Whether you’re upgrading to the latest model or just looking to clear some space, trading in your console with Mobile Reborn is super easy. But before you hit the "trade-in" button, here’s how to get your console prepped and ready.

Clean It Up

This might seem obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people forget! A clean console looks better, runs better, and just feels like it’s in tip-top condition. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe down the exterior and get rid of any dust, fingerprints, or grime. Don’t forget to clean the ports and vents – a can of compressed air can help blast out the dust!

Backup Your Data

Before parting ways with your console, make sure you back up all your data. Save your game data, profile info, and any downloadable content or settings you might want later.

For Xbox or PlayStation, you can use cloud storage for this.  For Switch, you’ll need to use a microSD card. Don’t forget to sign out of any accounts, too!

Remove Any Personal Information

We’re all about privacy, so make sure to erase your personal info from the console. Make sure to do a factory reset – this ensures all your data is completely removed, and your console is ready for trade-in.

PlayStation (PS4 & PS5)

PS4:

  1. Go to Settings from the main menu.
  2. Scroll down and select Initialization
  3. Select Initialize PS4.
  4. Choose Full (this will completely wipe your system).
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.

PS5:

  1. Go to Settings from the main menu.
  2. Select System.
  3. Scroll down to System Software and select Reset Options.
  4. Select Reset Your Console.
  5. Choose Full Reset to erase all data and settings.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Xbox (Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
  2. Go to Settings > System > Console Info.
  3. Select Reset Console.
  4. You’ll have two options:
    • Reset and remove everything (this will delete all your data and return the console to its original factory state).
    • Reset and keep my games & apps (this only resets system settings but keeps your games and apps).
  5. Select Reset and remove everything for a full reset.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.

Nintendo Switch

  1. From the Home Menu, go to System Settings.
  2. Scroll down and select System.
  3. Select Formatting Options at the bottom.
  4. Choose Initialize Console.
  5. Select Initialize and then follow the on-screen instructions.
    • You’ll be given the option to delete all data or only certain profiles.

Important Note:

  • Before doing any factory reset, make sure to back up your data (save files, user accounts, etc.) if you want to keep it.
  • A factory reset cannot be undone, so be absolutely sure before you proceed.
