Clean It Up
This might seem obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people forget! A clean console looks better, runs better, and just feels like it’s in tip-top condition. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe down the exterior and get rid of any dust, fingerprints, or grime. Don’t forget to clean the ports and vents – a can of compressed air can help blast out the dust!
Backup Your Data
Before parting ways with your console, make sure you back up all your data. Save your game data, profile info, and any downloadable content or settings you might want later.

- Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
- Go to Settings > System > Console Info.
- Select Reset Console.
- You’ll have two options:
- Reset and remove everything (this will delete all your data and return the console to its original factory state).
- Reset and keep my games & apps (this only resets system settings but keeps your games and apps).
- Select Reset and remove everything for a full reset.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.
Nintendo Switch
- From the Home Menu, go to System Settings.
- Scroll down and select System.
- Select Formatting Options at the bottom.
- Choose Initialize Console.
- Select Initialize and then follow the on-screen instructions.
