Apple’s latest iPhone generation has arrived, bringing some of its biggest changes yet to the Pro range. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max introduce a new camera system, upgraded performance, improved battery life and a range of features aimed at making the iPhone even more capable.

The Camera Upgrade: What Does Variable Aperture Mean?
One of the most interesting additions to the iPhone 18 Pro is the variable-aperture Main camera.
If you're not a photography expert, aperture basically controls how much light enters the camera. Being able to adjust it means the iPhone can adapt more effectively to different situations.
A wider aperture can help when you're shooting in darker conditions, while adjusting the aperture can also change the depth of field in your photos.

The two Pro models share the same core camera system and A20 Pro chip, so choosing between them mainly comes down to what you want from your phone.
Want something easier to handle? The Pro is probably the better fit.
Want the biggest screen and maximum battery life? That's where the Pro Max comes in.
And Then There’s iPhone Duo…
Apple has finally entered the foldable phone market with iPhone Duo.
Rather than having a single traditional display, Duo has a 5.4-inch screen when closed and opens out to a much larger 7.6-inch display.
The extra screen space is designed for things like watching content, gaming and multitasking, with iOS 27 allowing you to use apps side by side.
It’s a completely different approach to the iPhone and could be particularly appealing if you've been waiting for Apple to introduce a foldable.

Should You Upgrade?
If you're using an older iPhone and fancy the latest camera technology, better battery life and the extra performance of the A20 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro is certainly worth considering.
For photographers and creators, the variable-aperture camera and upgraded video capabilities are some of the biggest reasons to make the jump.
But if your current iPhone is still doing everything you need, there’s no reason to upgrade just for the sake of having the newest model.
And with the standard iPhone 18 not arriving until spring 2027, there are still plenty of options if you're looking for a new iPhone without going straight for the most expensive model.
