Prepping your iOS device for trade-in doesn’t have to be a hassle. Just follow these simple steps to ensure it’s clean, secure, and ready for trade-in.
1. Back Up Your Data
First things first: protect your data. Use iCloud or your computer to back up your photos, messages, contacts, and apps.
To back up with iCloud:

Go to Settings

Tap your name at the top

Select iCloud > iCloud Backup

Tap Back Up Now
To back up with your computer:

On macOS, use Finder

On Windows, use iTunes
2. Sign Out of iCloud and Apple ID
This step prevents activation lock issues during the trade-in process.
To sign out:

Go to Settings

Tap your name at the top

Scroll down and tap Sign Out

Enter your Apple ID password to confirm
3. Factory Reset Your Device
Wipe your device clean to remove your personal information.
To reset your device:

Your device will restart and return to its original setup screen.
4. Remove Your SIM Card
Don’t forget to take out your SIM card, especially if you're switching to a new phone. Use a SIM ejector tool to pop it out.
5. Clean Your Device
Make your device look its best! Gently wipe the screen and body with a microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals to prevent damage.
6. Remove Accessories
Give your phone a quick makeover! Remove the case, screen protector, and any other accessories so it’s ready for trade-in.
